On Sunday, March 19, the Gulf Center for Disease Prevention and Control held the ninth supervisory council meeting at its headquarters in Riyadh, with representatives from the member countries in attendance.
The meeting discussed the mechanism for implementing and activating the center’s main programs, as well as setting priorities for the Gulf Center for Disease Prevention and Control for the years 2023-2025, and discussing the objectives and working methods for the implementation plan, all of which are aimed at benefiting the Gulf communities and health institutions in the GCC countries. The meeting also witnessed the launch of the center’s official website (https://gulfcdc.org/ar).
All representatives from the GCC countries attended the meeting, including Dr. Hussein Al-Rand from the UAE, Dr. Ejalal Alawi from Bahrain, Dr. Abdullah Al-Qwaizani from Saudi Arabia, Dr. Amal Al-Ma’ani from Oman, Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al-Thani from Qatar, and Dr. Munther Al-Hasawi from Kuwait, in addition to the General Director of the Gulf Health Council, Mr. Suleiman Al-Dakhil, and the Executive Director of the center, Dr. Bassi Pantinen.
It is worth noting that the establishment of the Gulf Center for Disease Prevention and Control was approved by the leaders of the GCC countries during their 41st summit in Al-Ula in January 2021, with the aim of coordinating joint GCC work in public and preventive health, and to serve as a Gulf observatory for monitoring the spread of epidemics such as COVID-19, under the umbrella of the Gulf Health Council.
