Gulf Health Council Launches Campaign to Raise Awareness of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccine

The Gulf Health Council has launched an awareness campaign highlighting the importance of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, the vaccine serves as a protective frame against cancers associated with the virus.

The campaign aims to raise awareness of the importance of early vaccination against HPV, particularly for adolescents and those preparing for marriage, regardless of gender. It also seeks to enhance knowledge among parents and the wider Gulf community, including teachers, healthcare practitioners, educational institutions, health facilities, and nonprofit organizations.

The Council emphasized that HPV is one of the most common viruses, and that the vaccine provides 90% protection against related cancers. The virus may remain in the body for years without symptoms, potentially leading to multiple types of cancer, such as cervical, anal, oral, pharyngeal, vaginal, and penile cancers, in addition to warts.

The campaign relies on a variety of awareness materials, including a main video, short videos, a behavioral scientific quiz, an awareness guide, social media posts, and lectures designed to raise awareness and correct common misconceptions about the virus and the vaccine.

This initiative comes as part of the Gulf Health Council’s ongoing efforts to promote preventive health and reduce the spread of multiple cancers in Gulf societies. Studies confirm that the vaccine is safe and effective, and the World Health Organization has recommended it to protect both males and females from several cancers.

The Council also invited community members to visit the Your Health Guide platform to explore the campaign’s awareness materials through the following link:
