The Health Council for the Gulf Cooperation Council countries held a meeting of the esteemed members of the Executive Body in its 98th session on Wednesday and Thursday, April 24-25, 2024, at the Council’s headquarters in the Saudi capital, Riyadh. The meeting was opened by His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Hamad Al Thani – Director of Non-Communicable Disease Prevention Programs – Member of the Executive Body, State of Qatar – Chair of the current session, announcing the start of the meeting’s agenda.
His Excellency the members of the Executive Body discussed several topics listed on the agenda, which are intended to help develop the level of health services in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries. These topics fall under the main pillars of the Council, namely (Prevention – Awareness – Development – Health Support). During the sessions, the strategic vision of the Health Council for the period from 2025 to 2030 was reviewed, in addition to the results of health taxes, updates on the barcode specifications manual for Gulf medicines, and the central registration regulation. Approval was also granted to convert the guidance manual for classifying the risk level of medical devices and supplies, as well as the manual for change requests for medical devices and supplies, reflecting the Council’s commitment to developing and improving the health sector in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
The discussion comprehensively covered a range of important public health issues and the improvement of medical services in the region, including future aspirations for health developments and proposed measures to address them.
