The Gulf Health Council for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries held its 97th Executive Body Meeting on Wednesday and Thursday, September 6-7, 2023, at the council’s headquarters in the Saudi Arabian capital, Riyadh. The meeting was inaugurated by His Excellency Dr. Said Al-Lamki, the Undersecretary of the Omani Ministry of Health for Health Affairs and the current Chair of the meeting, who announced the commencement of the meeting’s proceedings.
During the meeting, the Executive Body members discussed several agenda items aimed at enhancing the level of healthcare services in the GCC countries. These items align with the council’s main pillars, which include prevention, awareness, development, and healthcare support. Additionally, the meeting addressed projects of the council and the Gulf Center for Disease Prevention for the year 2024. Furthermore, several joint Gulf health studies, conducted in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme, the World Health Organization, and the health ministries of the GCC countries, were unveiled. These studies are part of the implementation of the initiative to invest in non-communicable diseases in the Gulf Cooperation Council region.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Isa Al-Mansoori and Mr. Nasser Khalifa Al-Badour from the United Arab Emirates, Dr. Ijlaal Al-Alawi from the Kingdom of Bahrain, Dr. Adel Al-Harif, and Engineer Marai Al-Qahtani from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Dr. Said Al-Lamki and Dr. Mohammed Al-Rubaie from the Sultanate of Oman, Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Hamad Al-Thani and Abdullatif Ali Al-Abdullah from the State of Qatar, Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi and Dr. Muntathar Al-Hasawi from the State of Kuwait, and Professor Dr. Abdullah Mohammed Dahan from the Republic of Yemen.
